Question and Answer

What is Airly’s mission?

Airly’s mission is to reverse climate change through food. Here at Airly, we are fierce advocates for the well-being of our planet and acknowledge it will take big changes across the globe to tackle climate change, and we want to start with the food we eat. We want to show it’s possible to create a snack that is not only delicious, affordable, and wholesome but also climate-friendly. Airly is pioneering the food supply chain in a way that allows all of us to be part of a solution, and we hope to inspire others to do the same.

Airly was founded on four core values: the time to act is now, the food we all eat needs to be good for the planet, small steps can create big change, and that nature knows best.

Why do you call yourselves pioneers at Airly?

We want to rethink the food system. Today 25% of greenhouse gas emissions are from the global food supply chain. We seek to make food and agriculture part of the solution to climate change, not a contributor.

We connect world-leading scientists directly with farmers to encourage carbon farming practices that measure and help minimize our carbon emissions while maximizing the amount of CO₂ removed from the air. As a result, we trap more harmful CO₂ in the ground than we release working our fields… that is our definition of carbon farming, and all grains used in Airly meet this rigorous criterion.

And we continue to innovate throughout the supply chain. To offset CO₂ emitted during production and transportation to retailers, we invest in agricultural and forestry projects by purchasing carbon credits that further benefit the land. We are providing everyone with a climate-friendly snack today that’s also delicious, affordable, and wholesome. But the most significant benefit of Airly is challenging us all to rethink our food supply and sparking a movement to make climate a part of our purchase decisions to create a brighter future for us all.

Why should consumers try Airly?

First and foremost, Airly is a delicious snack the whole family will enjoy (we conduct blind taste tests vs. the leading cracker brands to ensure we’re delivering delicious!). But more importantly, you are making an impact every time you buy a box of Airly crackers. You are removing greenhouse gases from the air and influencing the future of food. As consumers demand climate-friendly foods, more food producers will start to make the same commitment Airly is, and together we will change how food is made.

How are your farming techniques special?

We farm differently so that our oats and wheat can remove more CO₂ from the air and sequester it in the soil. Airly farms incorporate carbon farming techniques such as no-till, cover crops, crop rotation, precision nitrogen management, and livestock incorporation.

These practices are designed to enhance carbon sequestration in the soil and minimize carbon emissions.

What evidence do you have to share that proves Airly removes greenhouse gases from the air?

Airly partners with Soil Metrics, now part of Indigo Ag, as our key carbon farming advisors. Soil Metrics was founded in 2019 by Dr. Keith Paustian of Colorado State University and purchased by Indigo Ag in 2021. Soil Metrics was founded to make available a modeling platform for commercial greenhouse gas modeling in agricultural systems. Over two decades of university research and development were invested in producing a comprehensive quantification platform for soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural lands. At the farms that supply oats and wheat for Airly crackers, Indigo Ag is the independent 3rd party expert that conducts a Farm Level Life Cycle Analysis on every field that grows grain for Airly. This detailed analysis considers everything used to grow the grain on the farm, including seeds, fertilizer, emissions from tractors, soil carbon sequestered, etc. This analysis shows the total result of growing our grains to remove carbon dioxide from the air.

How do you monitor how much CO₂ Airly is removing from the air?

We consider the entire production process – from seed to shelf. Indigo Ag performs a farm-level lifecycle analysis each season. Farm-level greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions analysis includes all GHG, including Methane, Nitrous Oxide, and CO₂. We measure all other GHG emissions from production and distribution twice per year, initially as a projection of the year, and at year’s end as a final annual emissions. These emissions are fully offset through carbon offset projects in US forestry and farming.

What goes into Airly crackers?

First and foremost, our delicious crackers are made with 100% wholesome oats and grains, grown through a farming process that removes CO₂ from the air. When it comes to helping the planet, there’s no need to sacrifice great taste! Made with real, recognizable, and 100% truly delicious ingredients, you can find them in your home kitchen. Yes, Airly cartons are recyclable and made with 100% recycled paperboard at a minimum of 35% post-consumer recycled content. Post-consumer recycled material refers to everything the consumer tosses into the recycling bin. These materials are collected by local recycling programs and shipped to recycling facilities, where they are sorted into bales based on material.

What is your biggest goal for Airly crackers?

Our goal is that these mighty crackers inspire everyone to start asking themselves important climate-facing questions, like “imagine if all snacks were made this way?” Airly hopes to encourage everyone to participate in a colossal challenge that is much bigger than us. We can all make a difference in fighting climate change by taking these small yet great steps together.

Where are Airly crackers available?

Airly crackers are available at Walmart this April and at many regional grocery chains.

What is the nutritional profile of Airly crackers

The Airly crackers recipe was developed to highlight the hero oats that remove CO₂ from the air. The first ingredient of Airly Clouds is whole-grain oats. Each variety serves 10-12 grams of whole grain, 5 grams or less of sugar, and 140 calories or less. All of the ingredients are non-GMO Project Verified.

Are Airly Crackers organic or vegan?

No. However, Airly Crackers are certified by the Non-GMO Project, a mission-driven nonprofit organization offering a third-party non-GMO verification program.

 How was Airly founded?

Airly was founded by three innovative CPG industry experts - Mark Izzo, Jennifer McKnight, and Kristopher Corbin. They are passionate about rethinking the way food is made and its role in solving our planet's biggest problem today – climate change. They seek to develop products that help tackle climate change while ensuring healthier soil and more sustainable farming practices for this generation and those to come. Airly is part of Bright Future Foods LLC – a wholly-owned Post Holdings, Inc subsidiary.
